We are proud to announce the launch of our new Swimming Academy at Park View Academy of Sport, starting September 2026!
Designed to provide a high-performance swimming environment alongside education, our Swimming Academy will support swimmers in developing their technique, endurance, race skills, and overall competitive performance while continuing their academic journey.
Led by Head of Swimming Paul Woodley, the programme has been developed in collaboration with local swimming clubs and will work closely with each swimmer’s home club coach to ensure academy training complements existing programmes and supports long-term athlete development.
Swimmers will continue to represent and train with their home clubs, while benefiting from additional daytime academy support designed to enhance — not replace — their current swimming programme.
We are delighted to initially be working alongside both City of Sunderland ASC and Derwentside & Gateshead Performance Swimming Collaborative as part of the academy launch.
Our Swimming Academy is open to all post-16 students across the North East looking to combine competitive swimming with education. Whether competing at club, county, regional, or national level, we aim to provide a flexible and supportive pathway tailored to individual development.
WHAT WE OFFER
Our programme is designed to support athletes both in and out of the water:
• Swimming Development – Expert coaching focused on technique, efficiency, race skills, and performance development• Personalised Programmes – Bespoke training plans aligned to each swimmer and their club programme• Integrated Support – Strength & conditioning, performance analysis, and specialist support services
All students will also receive access to our sports science, strength & conditioning, and physiotherapy services, helping to maximise performance, support recovery, and reduce injury risk.
TRAINING ENVIRONMENT
With participation, development, and performance pathways, the academy is designed to support swimmers at every stage of their journey. Whether the goal is progression through county and national competition or preparing for university sport, we will work closely with swimmers and their coaches to build a programme that supports long-term success.
🗣️ Lewis Pendleton, Director of Sport, said:
“The launch of our Swimming Academy is another exciting step forward for Park View Academy of Sport. We are committed to providing high-quality environments where student-athletes can thrive, and this programme allows swimmers to access enhanced support while continuing to excel academically.”
Paul Woodley, Head of Swimming, added:
“This programme is designed to work alongside swimmers’ existing club commitments. By collaborating closely with club coaches and providing additional targeted support, we can help athletes continue to develop in the pool while building confidence, consistency, and long-term performance.”
