Formal Announcement With Durham Cricket Club

Durham Cricket and its Foundation have teamed up with Park View Academy of Sport to launch a new Education and Cricket Development Centre, based at Emirates Riverside.

The Cricket Development Centre will form part of Park View Academy of Sport’s growing portfolio of successful Sport Academies, which has already seen them team up with other professional sporting clubs, including Carlisle United.

Park View Academy of Sport is part of Park View Sixth form, which gives every student the best possible chance of success as they embark on what is a very exciting step in their life.

The Cricket Development Centre, aimed at 16-19-year olds, will see learners combine academic studies with progression within the game.

All learners receive over ten hours of specialist batting and bowling coaching from Durham Cricket, additional strength and conditioning sessions and access to sports therapy and physiotherapy.

Alongside this, learners will undertake leadership training and qualifications in cricket and supported work experience within the cricketing profession and the recreational game. every student, thus giving them the best chance of academic and sporting success.

Marcus North, Durham’s Director of Cricket said: “The Cricket Development Centre is a fantastic opportunity to develop learners’ cricketing skills whilst achieving an excellent education alongside our own Foundation and Park View School.

“The centre will give young people the opportunity to train in a world-class, international facility and receive first-class coaching."

“Not only this, but we will be able to provide a holistic curricular and extracurricular programme facilitating development courses, placements and work experience through our wider cricket family across the North East.”

Lewis Pendleton, Park View Academy Director of Sport said: “We are delighted to be working with Durham Cricket and the Foundation to launch the Cricket Development Centre as part of the club’s official structure.

“We have been discussing this project for a number of years, bringing it to the fore. We are looking forward to welcoming our first cricket students to the home of North East cricket, Emirates Riverside.”

Adam Shaw, Head of Cricket & Commercial at Park View added: “After joining Park View over a year ago, it is a proud moment to see the official launch of our Cricket Development Centre in partnership with Durham Cricket and it’s Foundation.

“Cricket has been a huge part of my life since the age of 8 and I am both excited and proud to be overseeing the Cricket Development Centre.

“Working alongside each player’s club and county commitments, we aim to provide the opportunity for maximum individual development and in turn drive the standard of cricket within the North East, all whilst facilitating every player’s educational requirements.”
